There are two main types of mechanical face seals:

Type DO: This type utilizes an O-ring as a secondary sealing element.
Type DF: This type uses an elastomer with a rhombus cross-section as the auxiliary sealing element instead of an O-ring.
Both types consist of two identical metal sealing rings mounted face to face in separate housings. The metal rings have ground sealing surfaces and are centered within their respective housings via elastomer elements. One half of the mechanical face seal remains stationary in the housing while the other half rotates along its opposite face.
These seals provide strong sealing performance that is critical in protecting mechanical components from external contaminants, ensuring long-term reliability and durability under challenging operating conditions.
